Kathryn Frederiksen, shown right with husband Anthony, leads our music She has composed new songs and released her first CD called 'I lift my Eyes'.
Kathryn tells the story: ‘It is a great joy and privilege to be able to share these special songs. They illustrate my personal relationship with God as I have grown closer to Him and come to a greater understanding of His love, His mercy, His grace and His peace.
I pray that, as you listen to the words and the music, you may be drawn closer to God, to a deeper more intimate relationship with Him and to a greater understanding of the depths of His love for you.
Two years ago I attended a worship conference in Newcastle organised by the Christian rock group Yfriday and led by David Ruis, a singer/songwriter and worship leader from Canada. At the end of the day, Revd Clive asked David to pray for me as music group leader of our church. This short time of prayer completely revolutionised my life and my music ministry because David felt led by the Holy Spirit to pray for an anointing of creativity in my music.
I had written a few songs before this point over the years but nothing special had happened. They were simply songs between myself and God. However, from that point on, I began writing songs in a way I have never written before, songs that focus on a deep personal relationship with God, songs for times of intimate worship and prayer.
I sometimes think that inspiration is going to dry up and that I cannot possibly write any more but amazingly lyrics and melodies still keep coming into my head. I realised quite early on that when God anoints us for a particular task we have a responsibility to learn and develop our skills.
I was very much aware of my musical limitations so I embarked on a two year Diploma in Music through the Open University which has greatly enhanced my understanding of music and has given me far more confidence in arranging and composing my own material.
I have shared some of my songs in church and I know they have been a tremendous blessing to many people. The idea for the CD came out of feedback from church members who wanted to hear more of my songs and to be able to use them in their own quiet times with God.
It has been an immense project and has taken Anthony and myself over a year to complete and I am delighted with the final result. I have no idea where this CD will take me next but I know that God has a plan for my life and I am very excited about the future.
I would like to say a massive “thank you” to Anthony for all his hard work and patience in recording and producing. Although it’s my name on the front of the CD, it is the work of two people who love each other and love Jesus working together to extend His kingdom. It has also been a privilege to have help from the Body of Christ in our parish. Thank you so much to all of you who have made this possible’.
