Timetable:

  • Opening songs such as “Take your partner by the hand now, let’s swing hands to and fro”.
  • Bible story - this term, in the lead up to Easter, we are looking at the themes ‘Jesus loves me’ and ‘Jesus is powerful’.
  • Interactive stories – including dressing up and acting, to name a few of the different ways we tell our stories!
  • Short craft session, which usually involves lots of colouring and sticking. The children take the craft home (when it has dried a bit!) to remind them of the story.
  • Rest and enjoy some free play, coffee and chats.
  • Story such as Topsy and Tim or The Hungry Caterpillar!
  • Songs for the last 10 minutes - Bob the Builder, Miss Polly had a Dollyand ending with “Our God is a Great big God and he holds us in His hands”.

Story ClubVal says:

If you walk past Holy Spirit Church at 2.45 p.m. on any Wednesday afternoon during term time, you are likely to hear the strains of “Great Big God”, being sung with great gusto. This children’s worship song usually heralds the end of another Story Club afternoon.

Story Club, which is for all pre-school age children in the area, started two years ago, and we have a dedicated group of helpers. We are fortunate to have many members of our church congregation who help us with craft activities, story telling and providing much welcomed refreshments for children and their parents and helpers.

We aim to provide an environment where young children can learn about God’s love for them through Bible stories, associated craft activities, songs, drama,  nursery rhymes and other forms of musical activities.

During our two years, we have been privileged to observe so many young children developing an understanding of the Bible, and learning to work together through individual and group craft activities and free play sessions.

We are particularly blessed with our parents and helpers, who are so willing to join in this learning experience. We hope to provide an environment where children feel loved and very secure, learning to relate to their own peer group and caring adults.

As an on-going part of learning to live together, we have recently sponsored a young Ugandan  boy called Dennis, through the Christian organisation Compassion, and we hope the children will become involved in his progress over the next year.

Story Club takes place every Wednesday, during term time at Holy Spirit Church, Crawcrook. We start at 1.30pm and finish at 2.45pm so that parents will be in good time to meet older brothers and sisters from local primary schools.

We welcome all pre-school children, so please come and join us for fun, teaching and fellowship.
