I hope you will enjoy looking at who we are as a Church in the North East of England.
My name is Clive Devonish and I have the privilege of being vicar of this Parish in Greenside.
I am married to Cyndi and have three daughters. They have all flown the nest, that is my children, and not my wife. We moved into Greenside Parish three years ago, from a Parish in Shrewsbury and we love this beautiful part of England.
Over the past three years, the Parish has seen a lot of changes in all aspects of Church life. Many want to see God's Kingdom and His Church grow and fully support the vision of the Church. Not only are the buildings changing internally, but the whole spiritual attitude of the Church is changing as we move out of our comfort zones and begin to try and be the Church God intended us to be. We are not perfect, but we yearn to be what God requires of us.
I am extremely excited at what is going on in the Parish, as I see people's lives change as they meet with the risen Lord and Saviour. It is wonderful to see people giving their lives to Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit during Alpha courses. It is great to see someone in our morning service who had severe back problems for nine years, being instantly healed (praise the Lord!). Many other encouraging things are happening as we begin to give God the freedom to be God.
Although I am from a Roman Catholic background, I have also experienced many other denominations and styles of worship. I do not hide my colours and stand firmly on the evangelical/charismatic foundation. I believe that God has given His Church the wonderful Gifts of the Spirit to be used faithfully, with integrity and wisdom, and basic common sense to glorify His Holy name. The use of the gifts should always be undergirded by love and prayer.
My desire is to see the Church work in unity, selflessly proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and deed. I visulise a Church which has an all-member ministry attitude, focusing firstly on their relationship with God and then His people and loving them into the Kingdom where they will find His wholeness, healing, fulfillment and restoration.
