Introduction (Rosemary)

Merry Christmas! We warmly welcome you all to this special morning, when we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ!
For those unable to join us in person or on Zoom, may we thank you for the encouraging messages that you have sent, after receiving a visit from Eric, enabling you to watch the Children’s Nativity videos on his tablet.

Advent wreath (Rosemary / Tori)

Jessica lit our first Advent Candle, representing hope, Henry lit the second, for faith, Dylan the third, for joy and Adam the fourth, for peace. Now I’d like to invite Tori to light our Christmas Day candle, to represent the purity of God that came into the world through Jesus Christ, God’s sinless gift given for us,

Let us pray together:
God our Father,
today the Saviour is born
and those who live in darkness are seeing a great light.
Help us, who greet the birth of Christ with joy,
to live in the light of your Son
and to share the good news of your love.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
the light who has come into the world.
Amen.

Song (Kirsty / Rosemary)

Our songs this morning have all been chosen by Kirsty. Thank you Kirsty.
O come all ye faithful…

Confession (Rosemary)

Hear the words of the angel to Joseph:
‘You shall call his name Jesus,
for he will save his people from their sins.’
Therefore let us seek the forgiveness of God
through Jesus the Saviour of the world.
Amen.

Absolution (Tom)

May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Song (Kirsty / Rosemary)

Kirsty says ”Joy to the world’ on Christmas Day (Bethel Kids version) has a repeating chorus of ‘Joy, joy, joy’. I chose this version in particular because I think most of us could do with the opportunity to remember that because of Jesus we have so much to be joyful for, even in these most trying of times.’

Collect (Rosemary)

Let’s say The Collect together:
Almighty God,
you have given us your only–begotten Son
to take our nature upon him
and as at this time to be born of a pure virgin:
grant that we, who have been born again
and made your children by adoption and grace,
may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Bible Readings (Val G)

May I invite Val now to bring us our Bible readings. Isaiah 9.2-7 and Luke 2.1-14.

Sermon (Mike)

Mike is our preacher today. Let us pray for Mike (transcript).

The Peace (Rosemary)

Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given,
and his name shall be called the Prince of Peace.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
and also with you.

At the end of us sharing ‘The Peace’, we shall sing our next song.

Song (Kirsty / Rosemary)

From the Squalor of a Borrowed Stable…

Intercessions (Val G)

Val will now lead us in our intercessions (transcript) and the Lord’s Prayer.

Let’s pray the Lord’s Prayer together, that Jesus taught us:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Song (Kirsty / Rosemary)

Our last song this morning is Hark the Herald Angels, reminding us to join with all God’s angels in singing and giving glory to the new born king.

Blessing and dismissal (Tom / Rosemary)

The love of the Lord Jesus
draw you to himself,
the power of the Lord Jesus
strengthen you in his service,
the joy of the Lord Jesus fill your hearts;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
Amen

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
