Sunday 10 January

Introduction (Kirsty)

Morning everyone! Welcome to our service today. It’s so great to see you on Zoom if you’re here… Hi! And if you’re reading this transcript, then hello to you too. It’s such a shame we can’t all be together in a building yet but we are together in spirit and in the Holy Spirit.

Let’s begin with a prayer:

“Listen to our words, Lord; consider our sighing. Pay attention to the sounds of our cries, our King and our God, as we pray to You” (Psalm 5).

Thank you, Lord that you love each one of us. You saw us before we were born, you know our names and how many hairs there are on each one of our heads and, most importantly, you care. You care about us so deeply that you gave the life of your own son, Jesus, to save our lives so that we can spend eternity with you. Lord, please take our burdens of worry or distraction away from us this morning and instead fill us up with a longing to be in Your presence, hear your Word and know your Spirit. Lord, we long to meet with you, our Father and our friend.

This is Amazing Grace

Confession (Kirsty)

During our confession we can bring before God the things in our lives we know don’t honour Him.

If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from every kind of wrong.

In a moment of quiet we’ll bring those sins to God our Father.

Almighty God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed: we have not loved you with all our hearts; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. Have mercy upon us, cleanse us from our sins and help us to overcome our faults through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Absolution (Tom)

Almighty God,
who forgives all who truly repent,
have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Birthdays (Kirsty)

I know there are a few birthdays this week – I think it’s Christine B’s on Wednesday, and Helen W’s on Friday. Have I missed anyone? – Wave now if so… Happy birthday all of you and may God bless you in the coming year.

Andy, would you like to introduce the next songs?

Medley (Andy / Kirsty)

Andy says: These songs remind us of the hope we have in Jesus, that He is bigger than all of this, that He will get us through this and to keep our eyes focused on Him. …Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper …Light in the darkness.

It is Well

Readings (Christine)

Christine, would you read our Bible passages for us now, please? The readings are Psalm 29 and Mark 1:4-11.

Sermon (Mike)

Thanks Christine. Mike, can I pray for you before you speak to us? (transcript)

Lord, thank you so much for being with Mike as he’s listened to you and prepared this talk to help us know you more. I thank you for the passion he has for you and your word. Holy Spirit, please open our hearts and minds now to hear from You. Amen.

Thank you, Mike. I’m excited for our next song… it’s such an anthem.

Tell Out My Soul

Intercessions (Sandra)

Sandra is going to lead us in our prayers now (transcript).

Let’s say together the collect for today:
Eternal Father, who at the baptism of Jesus
revealed him to be your Son,
anointing him with the Holy Spirit:
grant to us, who are born again by water and the Spirit,
that we may be faithful to our calling as your adopted children;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

And the prayer Jesus taught us:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

The Peace

Now let’s share the Peace with one another…

Thanks everyone. Now our closing song.

Forever God is Faithful

Conclusion (Kirsty)

We’ll close our service by saying The Grace to one another:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all evermore.
