Sunday 11 July

Welcome and Introduction (Tom – shared screen)

Welcome to worship today. We meet as the people of God in challenging times. We are all stir crazy after 18 months of lockdowns, COVID is now on the rise again, the church so often seems to ignored and disparaged in the world around us. But Jesus is Lord, he is the light in this dark world’s night. And we meet in his name. So let us take courage.

It is some time since we have used the prayer of preparation in our worship books. Let’s use it now to prepare for worship by inviting the inspiration of the Holy Spirit – literally breathing in the Holy Spirit to fill us to overflowing with all God’s goodness.

Almighty God,
to whom all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from whom no secrets are hidden:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord.

Birthdays (Tom)

This week we celebrate birthdays for Gloria and Terry. Let’s pray for them and anyone else you might know who is having a birthday.

Heavenly Father we thank you for Gloria and Terry and all they mean to us. Thank you for all the years you have given them. We ask you to pour down your blessings on them today. Fill them afresh with your life-giving Spirit and equip and empower them as they grow as disciples of Jesus and members of his body. Amen.

Confession (Tom – shared screen)

We are so grateful that Jesus died for us. Because of this we can come to God in repentance and be reconciled to him. Because of this we have a future. Because of this our mistakes become the experiences from which God creates in us the image of the people he has made us to be.

Let us pray:
Almighty God,
we confess that we have sinned against You,
in thought , word and deed.
We have not loved You with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves.
Have mercy upon us;
cleanse us from our sins
and help us to overcome our faults,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Absolution (Tom)

Almighty God,
who forgives all who truly repent,
have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

In Christ Alone

God I Look to You

Collect (Tom – shared screen)

Creator God,
you made us all in your image:
may we discern you in all that we see,
and serve you in all that we do;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings (Christine)

The readings are Psalm 24 and Mark 6:14-29. We listen to the recording by Christine.

Sermon (Rosemary)

Let us pray for Rosemary who preaches the sermon today (transcript).

Father thank you for Rosemary. Pour your Holy Spirit on her today. Anoint our ears, minds and hearts to hear what you are saying through her. Amen.

The Creed (Tom – shared screen)

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is,
seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.

These Are the Days of Elijah

The Peace (Tom)

We are the body of Christ.
In the one Spirit we were all baptised into one body.
Let us then pursue all that makes for peace
and builds up our common life.

The peace of the Lord be always with you
And also with you.

Intercessions (Sandra)

Sandra will now lead us in our intercessions and The Lord’s Prayer (transcript).

The Lord’s Prayer (shared screen)

As our Saviour Jesus taught us, we pray together:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.

Blessing and Dismissal (Tom)

The love of the Lord Jesus
draw you to himself,
the power of the Lord Jesus
strengthen you in his service,
the joy of the Lord Jesus fill your hearts;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
