Sunday 12 July
Before we start…
We invite you to join us live on zoom (here’s the link) if you are worshipping at 10am. After the service, you are also welcome to stay on, to join our “breakout rooms” where smaller groups enjoy having a coffee together.
Please remain muted throughout except where directed otherwise. Before the service starts, this gives us an opportunity to wait on God in silence.
This week, Tom leads us, Randy is preaching, Simon is on intercessions, Caroline is reading, Andy is on music and Frank P is working ‘behind the scenes’ in hosting the service.
Welcome to worship today. It is always good to be together to worship God Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Let’s pray:
Heavenly Father we choose to meet with you and each other today. As we meet in Jesus’ name, send your Holy Spirit. We love you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We choose you today. May you be glorified. May we grow closer to you. May our worship change the atmosphere around us. May even strangers passing by our houses be blessed as your name is lifted high.
Song (Andy / Tom)
As followers of Jesus, we consider ourselves accountable to God. And as a community with a rule of life, we consider ourselves accountable to each other. This is not a hard burden, but an opportunity to grow and learn from our mistakes and to keep each other safe. So we always take the opportunity to confess where we have fallen short and to ask God to make us more like Jesus.
Let’s spend a moment in silence doing that.
Then we say:
Almighty God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed: We have not loved You with all our hearts; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. Have mercy on us: cleanse us from our sins; and help us to overcome our faults: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
Birthdays and anniversaries (Tom)
Let’s pray for Gloria, Terry and Ben who have birthdays this week…
And let’s also pray for Dick and Dee who celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this week! Congratulations to Dick and Dee.
Medley (Andy / Tom)
Almighty God, send down upon your Church the riches of your Spirit, and kindle in all who minister the gospel your countless gifts of grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Caroline is our reader for today. The readings are Isaiah 55:10-13, Romans 8:1-11 and Matthew 13:1-9,18-23.
Randy preached live today (transcript). Do pray for Randy. The recording of his sermon is below:
Pause to reflect and pray on Randy’s words. I think there are some very important things there for us to be listening to about being vs doing, lying fallow and what God wants to accomplish in this time of lockdown.
The Peace (Everyone)
Out Lord Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end.
The peace of the Lord be with you always
And also with you.
We unmute everyone for the peace…
Song (Andy / Tom)
Simon will now lead us in our Intercessions (transcript):
Let’s join together now, as we pray the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Song (Andy / Tom)
Conclusion and blessing (Tom)
The peace of God,
which passes all understanding,
keep your hearts and minds
in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen
