Sunday 13 September
Before we start…
We invite you to join the live zoom service at 10am. After the service, you are welcome to stay on and enjoy a coffee together in “breakout rooms”.
Please remain muted throughout except where directed otherwise. Before the service starts, this gives us an opportunity to wait on God in silence.
Good morning everyone, and a very warm welcome to worship. I’m Mike and I will be leading the service, Andy has chosen our Worship songs and Dennis is reading the lessons, Simon Spencer will bring our prayers of intercession and Paul Hobbs is our preacher. Our thanks to Tom who is our Zoom host.
Let us pause for a moment to gather our thoughts as we prepare to worship God.
Let’s Pray: Father God we live in an ever-changing world; every day is filled with something new. We are surrounded by the twists and turns of life, we may feel that we have little or no control over what happens to us. But Lord we know we can come and rest in your eternal presence.
We come to you to find ourselves, our way and hope. We come, because in Christ, you came to us. Father, fill us with your Holy Spirit that the rest of our lives we can praise and glorify you. In Jesus’ name we pray.
Let’s bring our Praise and Worship to God in our first Song.
Thank you Andy.
Song (Andy / Mike)
Andy says: We need to continually focus on God, no more so than at the present time. Remembering that God is in charge of everything. He has everything in control. He loves us. Let’s sing praises to God as we remember all the good things he has done in our lives and the things ahead that God has in store for us.Holy Spirit enter our hearts as we worship.
We come now to our Father to confess our failings and ask for forgiveness.
In a moment of quiet let us call to mind all that we have or have not done, whether in thoughts, words or actions that would displease him.
Father, forgive us for not always being open to the leading of your Holy Spirit.
Lord, forgive every thoughtless word, or selfish thought, every unkind deed.
Spirit, forgive all our failures and to love our neighbour as ourselves.
Let us be able to open our eyes, ears, hearts and minds to you, and by your grace make us the people you would have us be.
In Jesus’ name.
May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
It’s time to celebrate birthdays and I know of three. Paul Vickers and Tricia Reed have celebrated their birthdays this week and Jackie Crosby celebrates hers tomorrow. Happy Birthday. Anyone else, please wave.
Let’s pray for these special people. Father God, thank you for Paul, Tricia and Jackie, for all they mean to you and to us. Please bless them today and in the year ahead.
Protect them and draw them ever closer to you.
Medley (Andy / Mike)
Merciful God, your Son came to save us
And bore our sins on the cross:
May we trust in your mercy and know your love,
Rejoicing in the righteousness
That is ours through Jesus Christ our Lord
Dennis, may we have this morning’s readings now please. Exodus 14:19-31 and Matt 18:21-35.
Paul is our preacher today (transcript) and I know so much, prayer, thought, time and research has been put into preparation. Let’s pray for him now.
Thank you, Father for Paul and his willingness, bless him now as he speaks to us, of all he has heard from you about today’s scripture readings. Help us to listen and receive your message to us.
The Peace (Mike)
Let’s share the Peace together. This week we shall wave to each other as we did recently.
May the peace of the Lord be with us all.
Song (Andy / Mike)
Intercessions (Simon S)
Simon will now lead us in our prayers of intercession (transcript). Thanks Simon.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Song (Andy / Mike)
As God reminds us in every sunrise, that this world is only on loan.
For the sake of all our remaining tomorrows may our love for this world increase.
That all races may live together, share its riches, be at peace with each other.
May the God of Love be ever praised.
Let us all share the Grace together
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all evermore.
