Sunday 19 July

Before we start…

We invite you to join us live on zoom (here’s the link) if you are worshipping at 10am. After the service, you are also welcome to stay on, to join our “breakout rooms” where smaller groups enjoy having a coffee together.

Please remain muted throughout except where directed otherwise. Before the service starts, this gives us an opportunity to wait on God in silence.

This week, Mike leads us, Rosemary is preaching, Helen is on intercessions, Doreen is reading, Paul is on music and Tom is working ‘behind the scenes’ in hosting the service.

Introduction (Mike)

Hi my name is Mike and welcome to today’s service, on the 6th Sunday after Trinity. Trinity is a season in the church from Pentecost to the Transfiguration, it involves 25 weeks and it is where some of the wonderful teachings of Jesus are brought out.

It is always good to be together and so we pray today in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. – Lord Jesus, meet with us today as we worship in your presence and with one another. We ask that you send your Holy Spirit to guide our prayer and praise. May you be glorified, and show us how to grow closer to you. Let our worship change the atmosphere around us, that even strangers passing by our homes be blessed as your name is lifted high.

Song (Paul / Mike)

Confession (Mike)

As Jesus taught us it is right to confess our sins, so in a time of quiet let us tell him all of the areas in our lives we are sorry for, and ask for his forgiveness, as we are accountable to God and one another. So, let us take this opportunity to confess and to ask God to make us more like Jesus.

Let’s spend a moment in silence doing that.

Then we say:
Almighty God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed: We have not loved You with all our hearts; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. Have mercy on us: cleanse us from our sins; and help us to overcome our faults: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Absolution (Tom)

May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.

Birthdays and anniversaries (Mike)

Let us pray for those who have a birthday either today or this week and these are:- Ben Thomas, Paul Hobbs, and John Clayson.

Father we ask for these men and brothers of Christ that this week be wonderful and filled with peace and life that they may prosper in all that they do and give glory to you in their lives, in Jesus name.

Medley (Paul / Mike)

Collect (Mike)

Creator God, you made us all in your image: may we discern you in all that we see, and serve you in all that we do; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings (Doreen)

Doreen is our reader today. The readings are Genesis 28:1-19a and Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43.

Sermon (Rosemary)

As we listen to Rosemary today, consider what God might be saying to you (transcript).

The Peace (Everyone)

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end.

The peace of the Lord be with you always
And also with you.

We unmute everyone for the peace…

Song (Paul / Mike)

Intercessions (Helen)

Helen will now lead us in our Intercessions (transcript):

Let’s join together now, as we pray the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Song (Paul / Mike)

Conclusion and blessing (Tom)

May the Father
from whom every family in earth and heaven receives its name
strengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith:
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen
