Sunday 23 May – Pentecost
Welcome and Introduction (Mike)
Welcome to Greenside Parish, today is the start of Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus rose from the tomb, and when God’s Holy Spirit came down on the disciples in power whilst they were still in Jerusalem. Where ‘The Holy Spirit’ started the outpouring of God’s power, that has led up to today, marking the beginning of the great movement of God the world calls Christianity, of which we are still a part.
So, as we remember Pentecost, we now invite the Holy Spirit into this meeting as we say, ‘Come Holy Spirit, move us as you move the first disciples in power and with the infilling to work your wonders in today’s world. We ask your blessing upon this service and those involved, along with those who join us, whether now or when they view the service on the internet. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your Holy Spirit and guide us in the way you would have us go in these times of change, we honour you and praise you’. ‘Alleluiah’.
Let us start with a joyful melody as we are brought our first song.
Song (Kirsty / Mike)
All Who Are Thirsty
What God has prepared for those who love him, he has revealed to us through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches everything. Therefore, let us in penitence open our hearts to the Lord, who has prepared good things for those who love him.
Today is Pentecost Sunday let us say together:
Holy Spirit we need you to set us ablaze today,
Forgive us when we doubt your power,
When we close our ears to your voice,
Help us to hear you in our daily prayer times
And remember our faults no more.
Give us peace and light your fire in us again
In the name of our Lord Jesus and for your Glory of God.
May the Father forgive us,
By the death of his Son,
And strengthen us,
To live in the power of the Spirit,
All our days.
We pray this morning for Liz & Dylan whose birthdays are on the 26th and Val C’s, whose birthday is on the 29th of this month. If there is anyone out there who we have not mentioned please indicate and our host will tell me and we will include you in our celebrations.
Let us sing to our brothers and sisters, Happy Birthday…
Medley (Kirsty / Mike)
Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble?
God of Revival
This Is Amazing Grace
Let us say together the collect:
Holy Spirit, sent by the Father
Ignite us in your Holy fire;
Strengthen your children with the gift of faith,
Revive your church with the gift of love,
And renew the face of the earth,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ann will bring us our readings today which are, Acts 2:1-21, John 15:26-27, 16:4-15.
Rosemary preaches today (transcript).
The Peace (Mike)
God has made us one in Christ.
He has set his seal upon us and, as a pledge of what is to come,
has given the Spirit to dwell in our hearts. Alleluia.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
Spirit Break Out
The Profession of Faith (Mike)
We say together in faith:
Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is, and is to come.
We believe in God the Father,
who created all things:
for by his will they were created
and have their being.
We believe in God the Son,
who was slain:
for with his blood,
he purchased us for God,
from every tribe and language,
from every people and nation.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit:
the Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come!’
Even so come, Lord Jesus!
Gloria leads our intercessions (transcript).
And we gather all our prayers together as one:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Song (Kirsty / Mike)
To God Be the Glory
Blessing and Dismissal (Randy / Rosemary)
God the Father,
By whose love Christ was raised from the dead,
Open to you who believe the gates of everlasting life.
God the Son,
Who in bursting the grave has won a glorious victory,
Give you joy as you share the Easter faith
God the Holy Spirit,
Whom the risen Lord breathed into his disciples,
Empower you and fill you with Christ’s peace.
And the blessing of God Almighty,
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Be among you and remain with you always.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
Don’t forget if you need prayer after the service there is a link which has been sent to everyone and you can join those on duty to pray with you. You may have to wait to be invited into the prayer room, that is because someone maybe in with the prayer team when you log on, we have a waiting room and hopefully the wait will not be too long.
If you’re joining us real-time but were not on the zoom call, do consider joining us for coffee via zoom breakout rooms. Click here.
