Sunday 26 July
Before we start…
We invite you to join us live on zoom (here’s the link) if you are worshipping at 10am. After the service, you are also welcome to stay on, to join our “breakout rooms” where smaller groups enjoy having a coffee together.
Please remain muted throughout except where directed otherwise. Before the service starts, this gives us an opportunity to wait on God in silence.
This week, Glen leads us, Tom is preaching, Val C is on intercessions, David is reading, Kirsty is on music and Simon S is working ‘behind the scenes’ in hosting the service.
Good Morning and welcome to worship. It’s lovely to be together & see each other in this way. My name is Glen & I will be leading us today. Kirsty has arranged our music, David is our reader, Val will be leading our intercessions and Tom is our preacher.
I am blessed with many memories of hymn & songs learnt in Sunday School & School. They often come to mind but in these last weeks, a prayer frequently said in assembly at senior school has been uppermost, so I decided to put it into everyday English.
Let’s come to God in prayer and share in “The General Thanksgiving”
Almighty God, merciful Father, we your wayward children, bring you our heartfelt thanks for your loving kindness to us and to all people. We praise you for creating us, protecting us and for the many blessings of our lives. But above all, we thank you for your amazing grace and incredible love in redeeming the world through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ and for the promise of eternal life with you.
We earnestly pray, Father, give us a real awareness of your presence and loving care; may our hearts be genuinely thankful; may we praise you not only with our words but in our lives; may we commit ourselves to your service and walk with you in holiness & righteousness throughout our lives.
We pray in the name of Jesus to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit be all honour and glory now and forever.
Let’s share in that great hymn of thanks and praise: To God be the glory.
We come now to a time of confession when we say sorry to our Father God for any wrong actions, thoughts or words and for failing to serve you as we know we should.
Let’s take a moment in silence to call them to mind and ask for forgiveness.
Together we say:
Almighty God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed: We have not loved You with all our hearts; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. Have mercy on us: cleanse us from our sins; and help us to overcome our faults: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
I know Kirsty has just had a birthday and Frank G and Ian W have theirs in the coming week. We pray for them and anyone else who has a birthday this week.
Father we thank you for our sisters and brothers. We pray your blessing on them today and in the year to come. Keep them safe and draw them close to you. In Jesus’ name.
you give us gifts and make them grow:
though our faith is small as mustard seed,
make it grow to your glory
and the flourishing of your kingdom;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The readings are 1 Kings 3.5-12 and Matthew 13.31-33,44-52.
Tom preaches today (transcript).
Father, we thank you for Tom and the gifts you have given him. Bless him and the message he brings from you. May the words he speaks be your words and may our hearts and minds be open to hear from you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
The Peace (Everyone)
Let’s share the peace together.
The peace of the Lord be with you all.
We unmute everyone for the peace…
Intercessions (Val C)
Val leads us in our intercessions and we’ll use the recording (transcript):
Let’s join together now, as we pray the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Conclusion and blessing (Tom)
May the Father
from whom every family in earth and heaven receives its name
strengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith:
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen
