Sunday 2 August
Before we start…
We invite you to join us live on zoom (here’s the link) if you are worshipping at 10am. After the service, you are also welcome to stay on, to join our “breakout rooms” where smaller groups enjoy having a coffee together.
Please remain muted throughout except where directed otherwise. Before the service starts, this gives us an opportunity to wait on God in silence.
Good morning and welcome to worship. It is good to be together, whether we are together physically or virtually. Some of us are live on zoom. Others are live but using the web page without zoom. Others are together in spirit but worshipping at a different time to 10am. We are all still together, worshipping Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Let’s pray now:
Heavenly Father, please send your Holy Spirit as we meet in the name of Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit, may we become more intimately close to you, our Father God. Through your Holy Spirit, grow us and change us individually and corporately to be more and more like Jesus. May we grow into our inheritance as children of God. Through your Holy Spirit, change the atmosphere around the places where we are so that others may also fall into intimacy with you. Holy Spirit, come and have your way.
Song (Paul / Tom)
Once again, we have a chance to get straight with Father God. Let’s take a moment in silence to chat with him in our hearts about out “sins”. The word sin means anything that messes up our relationships with God or with other people. So we keep a moment’s silence…
Together we say:
Father, we have sinned against heaven and against you.
We are not worthy to be called your children.
We turn to you again.
Have mercy on us,
bring us back to yourself
as those who once were dead
but now have life through Christ our Lord.
May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
I know Charlie R has a birthday this week. We pray for Charlie and anyone else who has a birthday this week.
Father we thank you for Charlie. Thank you for his years. Thank you for how special he is as part of our church family. Please bless him now and in all the years to come.
Medley (Paul / Tom)
your Son left the riches of heaven
and became poor for our sake:
when we prosper save us from pride,
when we are needy save us from despair,
that we may trust in you alone;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Berni reads Genesis 32:21-32 and Matthew 14:13-21 for us.
The Peace (Everyone)
Some of us really love unmuting at this point and going on for ages. Others really don’t. We are all different. So today, for a change, we’ll experiment with saying the peace by waving at each other rather than unmuting.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace, of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end.
The peace of the Lord be always with you
and also with you.
Song (Paul / Tom)
Sandra leads us in our intercessions (transcript).
We conclude by praying together as Jesus taught us:
Let’s join together now, as we pray the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Song (Paul / Tom)
Conclusion and blessing (Tom)
Let’s end by saying The Grace together:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all evermore.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
