Sunday 30 August – All Age

Before we start…

We invite you to join us live on zoom (here’s the link) if you are worshipping at 10am. After the service, you are also welcome to stay on, to join our “breakout rooms” where smaller groups enjoy having a coffee together.

Please remain muted throughout except where directed otherwise. Before the service starts, this gives us an opportunity to wait on God in silence.

Welcome and Introduction (Tom)

Welcome to our All Age service. Today we are remembering St Aidan who died 1369 years ago tomorrow. Aidan is a famous saint all around the world but for us he’s even more special because he was the person who brought the good news about Jesus to our region.

Some of you might be wearing white because that is the special colour for St Aidan’s day. Rosemary and I are wearing our white stoles. If you aren’t wearing white and want to, you could still dash off and get something from the closet since we’re all worshipping from home.

We’ll learn more about Aidan as we go along but let’s start with a prayer…

Everlasting God,
you sent the gentle bishop Aidan
to proclaim the gospel in this land:
grant us to live as he taught
in simplicity, humility and love for the poor;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.

Rosemary is mainly going lead use today with input from our Open the Book team, Gloria and the children.

Song (Rosemary)

Let’s sing My Lighthouse.

Birthdays (Rosemary)

We missed Tom’s birthday last week when Tom was still on holiday. Melissa’s birthday is tomorrow. Any others? Let’s pray for everyone who has a birthday.

First Aidan story (Helen)

Helen has prepared a video for us (transcript).

Song (Rosemary)

As we will hear, Aidan walked the land, all over the kingdom of Northumbria, telling people about Jesus. Let’s sing We’ll Walk the Land.

Second Aidan story (Eric)

Eric has our second Aidan story (transcript)…

Readings (Children)

Our readings are 1 Corinthians 9:16-19 and John 13:16-20.

Third Aidan Story (Open the Book – Pamela, Doreen, Helen and Val G.)

Over to the OTB team who have recorded a video (transcript)…

Song (Rosemary)

Our next song is Oh Jesus I Have Promised. We couldn’t get a good one with vocals, but this one is good to sing along to, so have a go.

Talk (Tom)

Let’s pray for Tom before he share with us (transcript).

Gloria and the children will lead our prayers (transcript).

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Fourth Aidan Story (Rosemary)

Here is our final Aidan story for today (transcript).

Song (Rosemary)

Conclusion and blessing (Tom)

May the Father
from whom every family in earth and heaven receives its name
strengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith:
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
