Introduction (Mike)

Good morning and welcome to the first of our virtual services for Greenside Parish in this new year. My name is Mike Hendry and I am leading this week’s service.
God is good. After all that has happened in 2020 both good and bad, let us pray that this year will be fruitful and that this pandemic can be controlled earlier than expected, and this year be full of good news.

Paul is leading the music this week, so I will hand over to you Paul, to introduce your first choices.

Song (Paul/ Mike)

What Child is This?

Confession (Mike)

With God, ‘when we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from any kind of wrong.’ So as we begin this new year let us join together and say this confession:

Most merciful God,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we confess that we have sinned
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
In your mercy
forgive what we have been,
help us to amend what we are,
and direct what we shall be;
that we may do justly,
love mercy,
and walk humbly with you, our God
.
Amen.

Absolution (Randy)

Almighty God,
who forgives all who truly repent,
have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Birthdays (Mike)

It is Jayne Orkney’s birthday this week. Are there any more new year birthday people?
If so please let me know by using the chat or waving your hand and we will rejoice with you. Or, if you have a special anniversary please let us know.

Medley (Paul / Mike)

Here I am to Worship;
Is He Worthy?

The Collect (Mike)

God our Father
In love you sent your Son
That the world may have life:
Lead us to seek Him among the outcasts
And to find Him in those in need;
For Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen

Bible Readings (Paddy)

Paddy is our Bible reader today. The readings are Ephesians 1: 3-14 and John 1: 1-18

Sermon (Randy)

Randy is preaching live today (transcript). Let’s pray for him, that what he has received from the Lord for us, will be a blessing to us all.

The Peace (Everyone)

May the peace of God which passes all understanding rest our hearts and minds in the love of God:
The peace of the Lord be always with you
and also with you.

Song (Paul / Mike)

Holy and Anointed One

The Creed (Mike)

We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family
in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us
with power from on high.

We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Intercessios (Gloria)

We hand over to Gloria now, who is going to lead us in our intercessions today (transcript)

Song (Paul / Mike)

Over to Paul now, to lead us out with our final song!
Angels from the Realms of Glory

Blessing (Randy)

God of power,
may the boldness of your Spirit transform us,
may the gentleness of your Spirit lead us,
may the gifts of your Spirit equip us to serve and
worship you
now and always.
Amen.

Dismissal (Rosemary)

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ,
Amen.
