Sunday 4 April – Easter Day

Welcome and Introduction (Mike)

Alleluia, Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed, Alleluia.

Alleluia, Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed, Alleluia.

Alleluia, Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed, Alleluia.

Happy Easter and good morning my name is Mike Hendry and I am leading this week’s service in person and on Zoom and Frank is our host for those on Zoom, Paul has chosen the music, Paddy will be reading the scriptures and Gloria will be praying our intercessions today. We are celebrating Easter Sunday, and welcome all who can join us here at Holy Spirit Church and to those who are tuned into this meeting on zoom. Today we celebrate Christ rising from the grave. On this Easter Morning, it is good to be alive and able to meet openly and rejoice at this wonderful news.

Paul is leading the music this week, so I will hand over to him/her to introduce their choices.

Song (Paul)

Christ The Lord Is Risen Today

Confession (Mike)

With God, ‘when we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from any kind of wrong.’ And as we rejoice this Easter Sunday let us join together and say our confession:

Lord God;
we have sinned against you;
we have done evil in your sight.
We are sorry and repent.
Have mercy on us according to your love.
Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin.
Renew a right spirit within us
and restore us to the joy of your salvation,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Absolution (Tom)

May the Father of all mercies,
Cleanse us from our sins
And restore us in his image,
To the praise and glory of his name
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Birthdays (Mike)

We have one birthday as far as I can see this week, Jessica, happy birthday Jessica. Are there any more birthday people? If so please let me know by using the chat or waving your hand and we will rejoice with you in this event. Or if you have a special anniversary please let us know.

Song (Paul)

At The Cross (Love Ran Red)

Collect (Mike)

God of glory,
by the raising of your Son
you have broken the chains of death and hell:
fill your Church with faith and hope;
for a new day has dawned
and the way to life stands open
in our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Readings (Paddy)

Paddy is our Bible reader for today. The readings are Acts 10:34-43 and Mark 16:1-8.

Sermon (Rosemary)

Rosemary is our preacher live today (transcript). Let’s pray for her as she passes on to us all that she has received from the Lord and that it will be a blessing to us all.

Intercessions (Gloria)

We hand over to Gloria who is going to lead us in our intercessions today (transcript).

The Peace (Mike)

The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said,
‘Peace be with you’.
Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia.

Alleluia. The peace of the risen Christ be always with you
and also with you. Alleluia.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.
Christ is risen.

Renewal of Baptism Promises (Tom)

In baptism, God calls us out of darkness into his marvellous light. To follow Christ means dying to sin and rising to new life with him. Therefore I ask:

Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God?
I reject them.

Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil?
I renounce them.

Do you repent of the sins that separate us from God and neighbour?
I repent of them.

Do you turn to Christ as Saviour?
I turn to Christ.

Do you submit to Christ as Lord?
I submit to Christ.

Do you come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life?
I come to Christ.

Prayer Over the Water (Tom)

Praise God who made heaven and earth,
who keeps his promise for ever.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give thanks and praise.

We praise you, loving Father,
for the gift of your Son Jesus.
He was baptized in the River Jordan,
where your Spirit came upon him
and revealed him as the Son you love.
He sent his followers
to baptize all who turn to him.
Now, Father, we ask you to bless this water,
that those who are baptized in it
may be cleansed in the water of life,
and, filled with your Spirit,
may know that they are loved as your children,
safe in Christ for ever.

Profession of Faith (Tom)

Do you believe and trust in God the Father,
source of all being and life,
the one for whom we exist?
I believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Son,
who took our human nature,
died for us and rose again?
I believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit,
who gives life to the people of God
and makes Christ known in the world?
I believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church.
This is our faith.
We believe and trust in one God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Sprinkling (Tom)

Almighty God,
we thank you for our fellowship in the household of faith
with all who have been baptized in your name.
Keep us faithful to our baptism,
and so make us ready for that day
when the whole creation shall be made perfect in your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.

May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith,
that you may be rooted and grounded in love
and bring forth the fruit of the Spirit.

Song (Paul)

Here Is Love Vast As The Ocean

The Great Thanksgiving Prayer (Tom)

The Lord is here.
His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is always right to give you thanks,
God our Creator,
loving and faithful,
holy and strong.

You made us
and the whole universe,
and filled your world with life.

You sent your Son to live among us,
Jesus our Saviour, Mary’s child.

He suffered on the cross;
he died to save us from our sins;
he rose in glory from the dead.

You send your Spirit
to bring new life to the world,
and clothe us with power from on high.

And so we join the angels
to celebrate and sing:

Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Father, on the night before he died,
Jesus shared a meal with his friends.

He took the bread, and thanked you.
He broke it, and gave it to them, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this to remember me.

After the meal, Jesus took the cup of wine.
He thanked you, and gave it to them, saying:
Drink this, all of you.
This is my blood,
the new promise of God’s unfailing love.
Do this to remember me.

Jesus Christ has died.
Jesus Christ has died.

Jesus Christ is risen.
Jesus Christ is risen.

Jesus Christ will come again.
Jesus Christ will come again.

Father, as we bring this bread and wine,
and remember his death and resurrection,
send your Holy Spirit,
that we who share these gifts
may be fed by Christ’s body and his blood.

Pour your Spirit on us
that we may love one another,
work for the healing of the earth,
and share the good news of Jesus,
as we wait for his coming in glory.

For honour and praise belong to you, Father,
with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit:
one God, for ever and ever.

The Lord’s Prayer (Tom)

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.

Breaking of the Bread (Tom)

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
Though we are many, we are one body,
because we all share in one bread.

Communion (Tom)

Jesus is the Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world.
Blessed are those who are called to his supper.
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,
but only say the word, and I shall be healed.

Prayer after Communion (Tom)

God of Life,
who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son
to the death of the cross,
and by his glorious resurrection
have delivered us from the power of our enemy:
grant us so to die daily to sin,
that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his risen life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Song (Paul)

Crown Him With Many Crowns

Blessing and Dismissal (Tom / Rosemary)

God the Father,
by whose love Christ was raised from the dead,
open to you who believe the gates of everlasting life.

God the Son,
who in bursting from the grave has won a glorious victory,
give you joy as you share the Easter faith.

God the Holy Spirit,
who filled the disciples with the life of the risen Lord,
empower you and fill you with Christ’s peace.

And the blessing of God Almighty,
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Be among you and remain with you always.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
