Sunday 5 July
Before we start…
We invite you to join us live on zoom (here’s the link) if you are worshipping at 10am. After the service, you are also welcome to stay on, to join our “breakout rooms” where smaller groups enjoy having a coffee together.
Please remain muted throughout except where directed otherwise. Before the service starts, this gives us an opportunity to wait on God in silence.
This week, Rosemary leads us, Berni has recorded the sermon, Mike is on intercessions, Glen is reading, Paul is on music and Simon L is working ‘behind the scenes’ in hosting the service.
Good morning everyone. It’s always a joy to see so many people wanting to worship together each Sunday Morning. This morning I’d like us to especially remember those who don’t have access to the internet and aren’t able to join with us today. As we go through the service, let’s keep Doris S, Dorothy R, Alan G, Mary C, Audrey P and Sonia E in our hearts.
Sonia recently sent us a card, sharing that she thanks God for all those involved in preparing these services and for Beth who faithfully delivers a copy of the Sunday service to her each week.
Let’s begin with a prayer:
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, lift our hearts and our eyes towards you, as we worship you today, in spirit and truth. Help us, to help others, in finding faith in you.
And as St. Paul wrote in his letter to the Ephesians, that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith, as we are being rooted and grounded in love, that we may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that we may be filled with all the fullness of God. Amen. (Ephesians 3:17-19).
Before I hand over to Paul, who has chosen our music this morning, Tom has some news to share with us.
[At this point we’ll pray for Rosemary as she begins her curacy and pray for Julie who is moving to a new place.]
Thank you Tom! And now over to Paul, to share how God led him in his choice of music for this morning .
Song (Paul / Rosemary)
We come to a time of Confession now. Let’s be still and aware of God’s presence, asking God to show us where we’ve got it wrong. Let’s also remember that when we are truly sorry and repent of those things we have done wrong, God is always graceful towards us and forgives us.
Lord God, we have sinned against you; we have done evil in your sight. We are sorry and repent. Have mercy on us according to your love. Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin. Renew a right spirit within us and restore us to the joy of your salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
May the Father of all mercies cleanse you from your sins, and restore you in his image, to the praise and glory of his name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Birthdays since last Sunday have included Jonathan Brazier, Sonia English, David Smith and Rachel Spencer. We hope you enjoyed your special birthday Rachel! Does anyone else have a birthday for us to celebrate? We thank God for each one of you and we thank God for birthdays, for the gift of each new day, that God will cause his face to shine upon you!
Medley (Paul / Rosemary)
O God, the protector of all who trust in you,
without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy:
increase and multiply upon us your mercy;
that with you as our ruler and guide
we may so pass through things temporal
that we lose not our hold on things eternal;
grant this, heavenly Father,
for our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
I’d like to invite Glen now, to bring us today’s readings:
Romans 7:15-25; Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30.
Let’s listen now to a very good sermon brought to us by Berni, revealing what God has put on his heart for us today (transcript). Prepare us now Lord to listen and open our hearts for what you want to say to us all through Berni. Amen.
Thank you Berni. Let’s have a moment or two to consider what Berni has been sharing with us. Lord, whatever your Holy Spirit is putting on our hearts, help each of us to respond in the right way, drawing us closer to you and serving your people here on earth.
The Peace (Everyone)
Simon L., can you unmute everyone now, so we can share the Peace with one another. The peace of the Lord be always with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace.
Mike will now lead us in our Intercessions (transcript):
Let’s join together now, as we pray the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Song (Paul / Rosemary)
Conclusion and blessing (Tom)
The peace of God,
which passes all understanding,
keep your hearts and minds
in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen
