Sunday 6 June

Welcome and Introduction (Rosemary)

Good morning, I warmly welcome you all here as we worship our living God together. Let’s pray:

Lord, there is none like you, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. We want to glorify you this morning and ask your Holy Spirit to be present with each one of us in our worship to you.

Pour out your Holy Spirit. Fill us to overflowing. Jesus, we love you. We choose you. We lift up your name as the highest name. Holy Spirit we bless you. We ask you to come and fill our worship today.

God of our days and years, we set this time apart for you.
Form us in the likeness of Christ so that our lives may glorify you.
Amen.

Song (Paul / Rosemary)

Come, now is the time to worship

Confession (Rosemary)

Let our hearts and minds be still now. In silence, let’s consider and bring before God, those things which can spoil our relationship with him and with other people.

St Paul says:
‘Be imitators of God;
love as Christ loved;
do not grieve the Holy Spirit;
put away all anger and bitterness,
all slander and malice.’
So let us confess our sins to God,
who forgives us in Christ.
(Time of silence)

Absolution (Randy)

Almighty God,
who forgives all who truly repent,
have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Birthdays and events (Rosemary)

Sharon B celebrates her birthday this Thursday and Mike reaches 70 years of age on Friday. Happy birthday to you both!  Is there anyone else? Let’s pray for everyone celebrating their birthday this week.

Lord God, we pray with all our hearts for your servants Sharon and Mike to flourish in all the plans that you have prepared for them to walk in. We sincerely thank you for them.
Amen.

And Tricia Reed is getting married to David on Wednesday!
Because we believe that God is alive, that he loves us and answers our prayers, prayer is the greatest gift we can bring to Tricia and David this morning. So let’s pray for them now.

Loving God, we ask you to give Tricia and David your perfect peace in all the arrangements surrounding their marriage on Wednesday. Soak them with your perfect love, nothing missing, nothing lacking. Bless every person taking part in their wedding, that it may be a day of absolute love and joy. In Jesus’s name,
Amen

Medley (Paul / Rosemary)

Holy, Holy, Holy

How Great is Our God

Be Still (for the Presence of the Lord)

Collect (Rosemary)

Let’s pray the collect together, pausing after each line in order to soak in the words.

O God,
the strength of all those who put their trust in you,
mercifully accept our prayers and,
because through the weakness of our mortal nature
we can do no good thing without you,
grant us the help of your grace,
that in the keeping of your commandments
we may please you both in will and deed;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Readings (Paddy)

Paddy will bring our readings now from 1 Samuel 8:4-15 and Mark 3:20-35.

Sermon (Ben)

Ben is preaching today (transcript). Let’s pray for him.
Lord, thank you so much for Ben being part of our family here in Greenside Parish. Thank you for his heart in serving us as churchwarden. As Ben pours out your word into us, please refresh him and give us insight and wisdom for you, through Ben.
Amen

Creed (Rosemary)

We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family
in heaven and on earth is named.

We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us
with power from on high.

We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Intercessions (Helen)

Helen is leading our intercessions today (transcript). Thank you, Helen.

The Peace (Rosemary)

Today we are going to share The Peace together, as it is shared in the British Sign Language. Let’s try it. Hold together your thumb and first finger from each hand and touch together at the tips.

Keep holding them and move your hands outwards.

Bring the tips of all fingers and thumbs together.

And extend them out towards the person you are sharing the peace with.

We are all one in Christ Jesus.
We belong to him through faith,
heirs of the promise of the Spirit of peace.
Peace be with you.
And also with you.

Song (Paul / Rosemary)

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind

The Eucharistic Prayer (Randy)

The Lord is here.
His Spirit is with us.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give thanks and praise.

Father, we give you thanks and praise
through your beloved Son Jesus Christ, your living Word,
through whom you have created all things;
who was sent by you in your great goodness to be our Saviour.

By the power of the Holy Spirit he took flesh;
as your Son, born of the blessed Virgin,
he lived on earth and went about among us;
he opened wide his arms for us on the cross;
he put an end to death by dying for us;
and revealed the resurrection by rising to new life;
so he fulfilled your will and won for you a holy people.

Therefore with angels and archangels,
and with all the company of heaven,
we proclaim your great and glorious name,
for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness;
grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit,
and according to your holy will,
these gifts of bread and wine
may be to us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed,
took bread and gave you thanks;
he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;
do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper
he took the cup and gave you thanks;
he gave it to them, saying:
Drink this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me.

Great is the mystery of faith:
Christ has died:
Christ is risen:
Christ will come again.

And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross,
his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world;
rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension,
and looking for his coming in glory,
we celebrate this memorial of our redemption.
As we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving,
we bring before you this bread and this cup
and we thank you for counting us worthy
to stand in your presence and serve you.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people
and gather into one in your kingdom
all who share this one bread and one cup,
so that we, in the company of all the saints,
may praise and glorify you for ever,
through Jesus Christ our Lord;

by whom, and with whom, and in whom,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer (Randy)

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Breaking of the Bread (Randy)

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
Though we are many, we are one body,
because we all share in one bread.

Giving of Communion

Jesus is the Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world.
Blessed are those who are called to his supper.
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you,
but only say the word, and I shall be healed.

Post Communion Prayer (Randy)

Eternal Father,
we thank you for nourishing us
with these heavenly gifts:
may our communion strengthen us in faith,
build us up in hope,
and make us grow in love;
for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Almighty God,
we thank you for feeding us
with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ.
Through him we offer you our souls and bodies
to be a living sacrifice.
Send us out
in the power of your Spirit
to live and work
to your praise and glory.
Amen.

Song (Paul / Rosemary)

Come thou Fount of every Blessing

Blessing and Dismissal (Randy / Rosemary)

The peace of God,
which passes all understanding,
keep your hearts and minds
in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.
Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ.
Amen
