This is our material for Sunday worship. Some people use this web page directly. Most of us use this material together over zoom at 10am (details below). There are also many other churches streaming Sunday worship. Here’s a list.

Before we start…

We invite you to join the live zoom service at 10am. You can also access the zoom service with a phone via the dial in service. Call 0131 460 1196 and enter the following numbers:

Sunday 7 February

Welcome and Introduction (Gloria)

Good Morning. My name is Gloria and I have the pleasure of welcoming you in the name of Jesus to our Zoom service or the service via the web. May those who have received a transcript, receive every blessing as they read the scriptures and today’s message.

We so look forward to when we can physically be together in church to praise and worship our amazing Father. What a celebration that’s going to be!

Paul Vickers has a dual role this morning – Zoom host taking care of technology and has chosen our songs – which he will introduce.

Last Sunday morning I mentioned the delight of spring flowers peeping through but a considerable change in the weather – snow and heavy rain these past few days, has battered some of them. However, most are resilient and will return as strong as ever! Just like us when we take a knock, encounter a problem, for with the strength of Jesus we can bounce back stronger. Today we will continue to be strengthened by the Word. Jesus came as light of the world who holds out wonderful hope for all of us – we will hear more from Tom.

Lord, this is your day, you created all we can see. Each day you are the same God. We ask that you guide us through this time together, a time devoted to praising you, glorifying you, learning more about you. We come with expectation in our hearts, joyful to be in your presence, and ask that you hold us in your love now and always. Thank you Jesus.

1 Peter 2:9 NIV
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Song (Paul / Gloria)

Let us make a joyful noise unto the Lord as we worship, sing, dance, clap, praise. Our opening praise song is Holy Holy Holy.

Let us now take a moment of quiet and gather our thoughts as we come to this time of confession.

What’s on your mind at the moment? What is making you feel awkward or anxious? Raise these things to God and ask for the freedom that comes with the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Let’s take this opportunity now to lay down any wrong doings, things said, done or thought and say we are truly sorry and humbly repent. We can’t walk in the light if we are living in darkness. Let’s confess now to Father.

Almighty God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed: we have not loved you with all our hearts; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. Have mercy upon us, cleanse us from our sins and help us to overcome our faults through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Absolution (Tom)

Almighty God,
who forgives all who truly repent,
have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in life eternal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Birthdays (Gloria)

Before we continue with our service let’s celebrate any Birthdays. I understand tomorrow is Paddy’s birthday and Tuesday it’s Olwen’s. If anyone else is celebrating a birthday this week could you wave (Paul could you please check anyone indicating) yes/no?

We thank you Paddy for your Admin skills and Olwen for your steadfast love for Jesus. On behalf of all Greenside Parish church family may you continue to enjoy God’s blessing. We send our good wishes for a wonderful day and every blessing for your continued walk with Jesus. We wish you both a very Happy Birthday.

Medley (Paul / Gloria)

Open The Eyes Of My Heart

The Lion And The Lamb

King of Kings

Reading (Berni)

Our readings this morning are:

Ps104:26-37: A psalm of praise to our Creator God. So much about creation – described by David take the opportunity later to read the whole psalm.

And John 1: 1-14.

Sermon (Tom)

Father we ask that you guide Tom in all he does. We pray for fresh vision and your strength as he ministers in this parish, Chopwell parish and his work as Area Dean. Tom, we pray for more opportunities for quiet time for you when you can draw ever closer to Jesus.

We thank you for all the preparation to this talk and we ask now for expectant hearts to learn more about Jesus. God Bless. (Transcript.)

Let us reflect for a moment on the aspects and challenges raised by Tom during his talk. “We are witnesses to the light” – Are we witnesses to the light just as John the Baptist was? It’s our turn now to be witnesses – to do so we need to be living in the light and not in the darkness.

How do we live in readiness for the second coming of Jesus?

Father God, for all of us joining in the service – and indeed all Christians everywhere – we ask that we may live our lives to the full in this world whilst having our hearts set on eternal glory.

Thank you, Tom, for your recording.

Song (Paul / Gloria)

Trisagion Hymn

Intercessions (Val C)

Intercessions are led by Val C. Thank you Val. (Transcript).

Collect and Lord’s Prayer

Almighty God,
give us reverence for all creation
and respect for every person,
that we may mirror your likeness
in Jesus Christ our Lord.

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

The Peace

May the peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Let’s unmute and offer a sign of peace by waving to one another.

Song (Paul / Gloria)

Immortal Invisible

Conclusion and blessing (Tom / Rosemary)

May the Father
from whom every family in earth and heaven receives its name
strengthen you with his Spirit in your inner being,
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith:
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.

Thanks to all who enabled the service to be brought this morning. It’s been good to join for worship together. Take this opportunity to pop the kettle on, make a drink and return to enjoy a chat.
