MUSIC @ GREENSIDE PARISH
Welcome to the Music Ministry page of our website!
Here you will find all the information you need about the music in Greenside Parish.
Do you like our new motto? Proficiency, Humility and Commitment to Jesus –our very best with humble hearts for the King of Kings! (logo to be added next month)
Music for our Sunday morning and evening services is led by our music ministry teams. We are privileged to have several talented musicians and singers who regularly give their time and their gifts to serve God through music. We currently have five music teams headed up by Kathryn, Anthony, Val, Lisa and Simon.
Here are the profiles of Kathryn, Anthony, Val, Lisa, Ann, Christine, Carrie, Mike, Pam, Helen, Cath, Jan, Simon, Lynne (photos to be added next month)
Kathryn leads the music team. She is responsible for providing musicians and singers for services. She currently leads worship twice a month as well as being a supporting musician in two other teams. She sings, plays keyboard, organ and guitar and is learning soprano saxophone. She writes her own songs, many of which are used in church, and has recently produced her first CD.
Anthony is our great all-rounder, able to turn his hand to several instruments as well as sound and multi-media technology. He plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, saxophone and keyboard – not all at the same time though! He leads worship with his own team once a month.
Val has been involved in the church’s music ministry for many years and brings a depth of musical experience to the team. She plays keyboard in Anthony’s team and leads worship with her own team once a month. She has recently tried her hand at playing the organ.
Lisa is our youngest member and is packed full of enthusiasm, encouragement and musical knowledge. She leads her own worship team once a month and plays clarinet and saxophone whenever she can as well as providing vocals in other teams.
Simon is our newest team leader and is a wonderful person and brilliant musician. He plays keyboard, organ and guitar and brings to us a wealth of musical knowledge and Christian ministry experience from his work in
Lynne is married to Simon and has sung once with us to date. Hopefully we can encourage Lynne to join in more with her lovely voice.
Ann loves to sing and is full of fun and enthusiasm. She joined us quite recently but blends in perfectly and is an asset to any team.
Christine sings and plays bodhran (Irish folk drum) which lends a unique quality and extra dimension to our worship. Christine moves between teams where required.
Carrie is a beautiful singer who loves to worship the Lord through music. She sings with Lisa’s team at the moment.
Pam sings with us when she can and tends to flit between teams filling in where there are gaps. She sings alto with the Gibside Ladies Choir and is a privilege to sing with.
Mike sings with us from time to time whenever his duties as churchwarden allow. He enjoys singing and has a wonderfully soft mellow voice. Like Pam, Mike is always prepared to help out if he can.
Helen has a lot of experience in music teams. She now sings and plays ukulele in Val’s team and writes her own music, some of which she has shared in church.
Cath sings and plays acoustic guitar in Val’s team as well as helping out with her guitar in Sunday Club. She also writes her own music which we would love to hear more of.
Jan plays flute beautifully but sadly has to work most Sundays so she cannot be with us as often as she would like.
As you can see, we have a wonderful variety of instruments which ensures our music is always different and vibrant. One of our amazing strengths is the huge variety of music we include as we worship. There is definitely something for everyone whatever your age and church background from traditional church hymns to action songs and contemporary Christian music. If you have your own suggestions for songs which help you to worship God, write them on the list at the back of church and we will try to include them where appropriate.
MUSICAL EXTRAS
PARISH CHOIR
Last year’s Parish Christmas Choir was a great success – twenty people took part in the Carol Service which was amazing. It was great to involve so many members of our congregation who are not normally part of the music team. We joined up again for our Easter Day morning service which was wonderful. We hope to continue with this feature of our music ministry due to popular demand!
SATURDAY SING FOR JOY
This is a new musical phenomenon starting in September 2010 for all those who love singing. It is open to anyone who enjoys singing and is purely a fun opportunity to learn new songs as well as sing some old favourites. Come along to Holy Spirit church on the second Saturday of the month 10 – 11.30am starting 11 September!
